THE CONTEMPORARY PHOTOBOOK LIVES! THOUSANDFOLD TURNS 1 MONTH AND BRINGS PHOTOBOOK CLUB MANILA TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY
To those who are not familiar, Photobooks are unique author/artistic works from photographers who have distinct voices using photography and the printed format to share a perspective of the world. In recent years, the contemporary Photobook has been enjoying a resurgence in the prolific publishing of remarkable photobooks all over the globe. From the vanguard landmark photobooks from recent Spanish photographers, to the annual Photobook Awards by Aperture Foundation+Paris Photo, to the establishment of institutions around Photobooks such as the Photobook Museum in Germany, to the de-facto presence at major festivals for photography with special sections devoted to photobooks—from Paris Photo to Unseen in Amsterdam to Guatefoto in Guatemala, to Obscura Festival in Malaysia, Angkor Photo Festival in Cambodia, and Fotosemana Festival in Manila, the book has legs and is traveling far and wide. It seems the Photobook is now joined at the hip with what it means to become a contemporary photographer and, for the public, the intimate book-as-special-object has returned to be endeared by many.
Joining the global community of photobook lovers, Thousandfold is launching PHOTOBOOK CLUB MANILA—an open self-organizing group for the sharing and appreciation of photobooks with like-minded individuals. It wiil be officially introduced at the event and interested individuals are encouraged to join.
